Moist heat created by heating a Rice Bag has been a proven source of relief for arthritis and other pain.
I decided to get “crafty” with my Rice Bags and personalize them using the Print Gocco to make a Fun and useful gift.
Materials Needed:
Print Gocco and Gocco Fabric Ink in colors desired.
Terry cloth hand towel
6” X 8” 100% cotton unbleached muslin ( washed and ironed)
Sewing machine and needle and strong thread
Long grain white rice
Lavender oil scent
Procedure:
1. Fringe edges of muslin about 1/2”
2. Print out lettering desired on computer or you can hand write the message. You can add clip art if desired. Photocopy completed message/design.
3. Following Print Gocco Instructions, make the Master Screen and print on the muslin. Set aside to dry.
4. Cut bands off both ends of hand towel. Center printed muslin messages on towel at each side.. Make sure message or name reads the opposite direction so when the towel is sewn they will both face the same direction. Stitch around edges inside of fringed area.
5. Fold towel right sides together and sew around leaving about 4” open to turn.
6. Turn towel right side out. Fill with rice to about 3” from top. Don’t overfill as the bag needs to be floppy (not firm). Add a little Lavender scent to the rice. Not too much as the scent is stronger when heated!
7. Hand sew the opening with needle and strong thread.
Heat in the microwave for 3 minutes. Great to warm your feet, place on a sore neck or relieve pain on any achy joint.
