The Craft TV

time!

Hi!
I'm Marlene Watson
Maybe you have seen one of my
craft designs in your crafting
magazines or on a television show such as Aleene's Creative
Living. I also teach weekly classes in my home studio in Santa
Maria, Ca. To
learn a little more about me, read my story below. Happy
crafting! |
As a
young mother living in Colorado in 1953, I started painting on fabric
before it was a known craft. I painted tablecloths, pillow cases,
towels, curtains and lots of baby blankets; mostly for gifts at first
and eventually for special orders.
My
first real paying job was for a casket company! I painted roses on
satin coverlets that draped the caskets. It took six hours of work for
each cover and I was paid $2.00 each.
As my
children were growing up, crafts were always a part of our fun time.
In 1966 we moved to Catalina Island, off the California coast and
managed the Los Angeles Girl Scout camp there. My mom managed the YMCA
camp next to us. We taught crafts all summer long to hundreds of
campers. We used about 50 gallons of Tacky Glue each year!
In
1970 we started our business, Marlene's Craft House. Our store was 500
square feet of space and we taught classes every day. Three years
later, we were able to move into larger quarters, still teaching
classes daily. In 1972 I thought I had hit it big when a design I
submitted to Hazel Pearson Handicrafts was accepted - I received a
$5.00 merchandise certificate.
