The Look of Stained Glass And so Easy
The Piñata Paints make it so easy to create the look of stained glass on
plastic or glass. I have just started to design with these paints and am finding more and more interesting ways to use them.
The spider-like effect on these pieces was made by using an Air Duster. You can buy them at any hardware or stores such as Costco, Office Depot and Walmart. They are normally used to blow the dust out of your computer, VCR or sewing machine.
You can also use an air brush but I found that in my classes it was easier for every one to have their own can of air duster than to share an airbrush.
Just drop one drop of paint at a time and blow with the air duster.
Interesting effects can be made by dropping a different color of paint over the first and blowing.
Because the paint is alcohol base it dries almost instantly.
The lighter colored vase and the plastic Egg was done a little differently. I still dropped the paint on one drop at a time but then drop another color of paint on top of the first and don’t blow it. It will spread in irregular patterns creating a completely different look.
The white paint is opaque so if you want a more solid color or a pastel, drop one drop of white on top of a color and then either let it spread on it’s own or blow with the air duster.
It is important to work on clear, white or light colored surfaces because
the paint is transparent and will not show up on a dark surface.
After the paint is dry you could go back and draw lines with liquid leading or leading strips to create a stain glass window effect.
Pinata Paints need to be sealed with either a waterproof enamel or clear spray to make them washable. On the gold plates I used Krylon Gold Spray Enamel. For a clear finish I used Krylon Crystal Clear Spray Sealer. You can chose
any color you desire as long as it is a good washable enamel.
